One of my Six Flags photos is part of this spectacular exhibit opening on Feb. 25. Please read below for more info.

For complete info, please visit:

NOLA NOW is an online database initiated by the Contemporary Arts Center (CAC), New Orleans in the spring of 2011. The database serves to document current work by visual artists living and working in greater New Orleans (Orleans, Jefferson, St. Bernard, Plaquemines and St. Tammany parishes). The content has been compiled, edited and uploaded by artists who will have continual access to their page, which can be updated at any time. The long-term goal of this endeavor is to promote and bring greater exposure to the vibrant arts scene in New Orleans and to present the database as an invaluable resource to arts institutions, curators, and writers across the globe. Over 400 artists initially created profiles for NOLA NOW, and beginning January 30, 2012, eligible artists will have another opportunity to submit work made within the last two years.

The second installment of NOLA NOW will be presented February 25 – June 3, 2012 in the first floor gallery of the CAC. Both exhibitions are part of the CAC’s 35th Birthday program focusing on past, present and future work by local artists. In conjunction with the opening of NOLA NOW, Part II, the database will be launched online February 25, 2012. NOLA NOW, Part II will feature the work of nearly 200 New Orleans’ artists, celebrating the large all-inclusive group exhibitions organized by artists in the early years of the CAC.

So, my the opening for my Six Flags show at Cafe Degas seemed to be a huge success for me! A lot of people showed up in support, and I’ve done my best to thank people again for coming out. I’m proud to say that I sold some of my work as well, which I’m very excited over as well.

I have to say…and I’m a humble guy…but I’m damned proud of what I’ve been able to accomplish over the past 8 years, and specifically over the last year. It’s wonderful to see that all of the advice I sought out from my dad did everything he said it would do in the long run, and always remembering my mom telling me to “never give up” whenever things seemed to go nowhere. Now, the goals I set for myself have seen fruition and are coming full circle in all areas of my professional life. I feel really lucky.

I want to again thank everyone who came out last Thursday night, and everyone who wanted to but couldn’t make it. Your support takes me to new levels.

Artist Frank Aymami chose to highlight a desolate Six Flags amusement park. The rides are still there, only it’s empty and overgrown.

“Everybody is used to seeing these murky dark looking images, stuff that was flooded, and it still hasn’t been touched or anything like that, so I wanted to present it in a way that it kind of caught somebody’s eye. Because a lot of people in New Orleans are so used to it that they hardly even notice it anymore,” says Aymami. “I didn’t want people to get brought back to that bad feeling that they get.”

Opening Reception: Thursday, September 1, 2011, 4:30 – 6:30PM at The Rebecca Randall Bryan Art Gallery, Coastal Carolina University

From Coastal Carolina University’s website:
“Featuring the works of present and past New Orleans artists, including Jan Gilbert, Debra Howell, Kristen Beazley, Frank Aymami, Brian Nolan, Rontherin Ratliff and others.

After Hurricane Katrina devastated New Orleans in 2005, many local artists were unable to return to their homes and studios. “Trinitas” brings together displaced New Orleans artists with members of their former community in a large-scale, wetlands-inspired wall installation assembled as the result of an international call for submissions initiated and configured by artists Jan Gilbert and Debra Howell of The VESTIGES Project of New Orleans.”
